POSITIVE THOUGHTS

The only way is up..............hopefully!

THIS MONTH WAS OUR 20TH AGM! However, non of us feel much older than when we started in the year 2000. We are a very positive group of women.

Our chairperson, Mary, opened the meeting with an analysis of our trading year, detailing which shares we had bought and sold from May 2019 to May 2020. We are very happy we offloaded Whitbread and On the Beach as both shares have fallen sharply in the past six months. We have increased the number of shares in our portfolio over the year from 23 to 25 shares.

Our Treasurer, Pam S, then gave her financial report for the same period.

She noted that at our 2019 AGM the FTSE stood at 7270.....it is now sitting at around 6002 - a drop of over 17.4% .

The China Dolls portfoliio has only fallen 12.6%....so we gave ourselves a little pat on the back. Bucking the trend once again.

Our three largest monetary holdings are Croda - Diageo - Halma

We have held Croda for many years, often adding to our original holding - it is showing a total profit of 90%.

Diageo - this share is showing a profit of 25%

Halma - A recent purchase in 2019 already showing a 28% profit

Homeserve - although not in our group of three largest holdings is also showing a profit of 91%

We reappointed our Chairperson, Mary. Our Treasurer Pam S. and our secretary Pam G

All three were happy to continue for another year. Pam S, of course, will never be allowed to resign, she holds the club together with her accountant brain!

As we now hold our meetings on Zoom, all the information on our individual shares are sent to each other by email the day before the meeting, giving us the chance to read about our holdings before we "meet" up. This way we do not spend our precious 40 minutes reciting our share reports.

We then have time to discuss which shares we might consider selling or buying.

The consensus was to sell enough Hotel Chocolate shares to enable us to invest a further £1000 in Trainline. There was concern about the number of outlets Hotel Chocolate has had to close due to the Covid crisis.

Trainline is a relatively new share to our portfolio and it has fallen since our initial buy. However with the demise of Flybe we are hoping that regional business travel will be using the railways a lot more.....adding to this is the fact that all tickets will have to be bought through Trainline's online website as no "paper" tickets will be issued for train services.

We optimistically fixed a date for our Christmas lunch at the Chewton Glen and sincerely hope we will all be able to meet up once again for a little festive cheer.
