One of our members received a phone call from an Amanda Page, of Thomas & Ward Advisors, NY asking if she had shares in Microgen. Apparently, the story went, they were working on behalf of a client who wanted to make a hostile take-over bid and needed 52% of the shares, currently only having 43% so wanted to make an offer for my shares. Our member couldn’t find this company, only a Thomas F Ward Financial Services in NY. Googling ‘hostile take over scam’, but she did find an article from the Guardian, dated 2014, describing this scam when the man concerned got as far as being asked for a £5000 bond to be placed to ensure the deal went through, at which point he woke up! Looks as if this scam is surfacing again.
